Our Library

The library at Severn Avenue Public School strives to provide a vibrant, welcoming environment that promotes learning to meet the needs of the students and school staff while fostering a love of reading and life-long learning. Students visit the library once a week. All of the children are able to borrow books. The younger children have a weekly story time. The older children have a more varied library program which includes the introduction of the Dewey decimal system, research skills, book chats and an introduction to a variety of authors and new books.

Please remind your children to take good care of their library books, keep them in a safe place and return them on time. If a student has an overdue book, they will not be permitted to borrow anything else until the item has been returned.

Character Education

One of the areas of focus this year at Severn Avenue Public School is character education. Character education involves teaching children about basic human values including honesty, kindness, generosity, courage, freedom, equality and respect. The goal is to help children become morally responsible, self-disciplined citizens. Problem solving, decision making and conflict resolution are also important parts of developing character. In the library, we read a number of picture books that enhance understanding of character education.
