Principal Message - April 15, 2025

Dear Severn Avenue Families

Please take a moment to look at the following updates from Severn!

April Building Bridges

Are you interested in knowing more about what your child is learning at school? Click one of the links below and you can see what we are learning and how we are making connections between home and school.

Kindergarten   Grade 1    Grade 2   Grade 3   Grade 4   Grade 5   Grade 6

Lost and Found

Our Lost and Found has many winter clothing items. Please ask your child to look for their missing items. Whatever is not picked up by May 1 will be donated to families in need and single unmatched mittens and gloves will be donated to the Lone Mitten Pilot Project by OSEAN where they will be matched with other lone mittens and donated to individuals, schools and other organizations that will use them.

Breakfast Club

Please ensure your child is signed up for the Breakfast Club at this link. It’s free. We want to ensure that our breakfast monitor is aware of any allergies when purchasing food for the program.

Washroom Vandalism

We continue to experience vandalism in student washrooms that is specifically targeting toilets and clogging them purposely with toilet paper. This is leading to flooding. We kindly ask students to refrain from tampering and clogging toilets as it requires us to then close the washroom to students and repair the toilets and damage caused. Washrooms are intended to be safe and clean spaces for all students and this situation is causing students to feel unsafe at school. Please take a moment to review this with your child. Thank you for your support.

School Dance

As a way to Improve our school community and increase our physical activity we will be having a school wide dance this Thursday April 17 during school from 12:30-1:30 pm. There will be alternate activities for students who would rather do puzzles, colour, read, play Lego and do crafts, supervised by Severn staff. This dance is spearheaded by our Grade 6 Student Ambassadors who will be helping bring our student community together.

EQAO -  Our grade 3’s and 6’s will be participating in EQAO this year, at the end of May and the beginning of June. There will be more information shared with families as we approach that time. In the meantime below is detailed information regarding a math night for parents.

EQAO Math Night for Parents and Guardians
Join us for a free live webinar where EQAO staff will discuss math questions that Ontario students encounter when they participate in Ontario’s large-scale assessments. These assessments are taken by all Ontario students in Grades 3, 6 and 9. During the webinar, EQAO staff will show how these math questions help assess the skills students are learning in their math classes. Staff will also share valuable insights from the past three years of assessment results, which can help parents and guardians support their children’s math learning.
